Night Light- George Stradtman

"You are the light of the world- like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your Heavenly Father."

(Matthew 5: 14-16)

Getting ready for bed on Monday, Dewey and I discovered a magical night light that belongs to the kid who stays in the room we are sleeping in. Being sleepless and full of energy, we decide to turn it on. Little did we know, this color changing, fiber optic lamp would be our entertainment for the next hour. Waking up this morning with the lamp still on knowing we fell asleep playing with the lamp was one of the funniest moments of the trip so far.

After an incredible breakfast provided by two ladies from the local church, we left for the river where we whitewater rafted. Almost halfway through the trip, our guides explained the upcoming impassable Rapids and gave us two options to go about avoiding them. The first choice was to walk around them on a service road or we could swim through a cave in 8 degree Celsius water and climb out and around the Rapids through a narrow hole in a giant rock. Of course most of us chose the more thrilling option. Little did we know, this short swim was more daunting as we looked into the pool of dark, frigid water. Not being able to turn back or see what was under the surface, the leap into the pool required all of the trust we have in God. Remembering psalm 23, we knew the lord would have our backs and guide us to safety through the cave and to the other side of the Rapids.
